On behalf of the Society the Engineering Group is one of the supporting organisations for the UK Register of Ground Engineering Professionals, a competence based register that identifies ground engineering professionals from within the chartered membership of the Geological Society, the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
The Engineering Group actively supports training and professional development for engineering geologists, both pre- and post-chartership. The Group’s Training Guide can be downloaded from these pages. The Group organises a full programme of technical meetings and sets up working parties which have lead to a range of Special Publications and technical handbooks. A number of Geological Society publications are available from the online bookshop. Generous discounts are available to Fellows. Out of print publications are available online via the Lyell Collection.
The Group’s most prestigious annual event is the Glossop Meeting, which includes the Glossop Lecture presented by a leader in the field, from the UK or overseas. The Engineering Group Award is presented in early to mid career to mark a significant contribution to research, publication or practice in the field of Engineering Geology. Every two years the Group hosts the Engineering Group Forum, which provides an opportunity for the members to meet and discuss a topical theme.
The Engineering Group has established a discussion list on the JISCMAIL List server to help promote and facilitate discussion and information distribution amongst the UK Engineering Geology community. Instructions for joining the service are available via the short poster below.
The Engineering Group also has an active LinkedIn discussion page which can be accessed here: www.linkedin.com/groups
